We Have A Winner!
We have a winner---finally. There were 21 comments on this post--the first number that the random number generator picked was 12--she already has the book. The second number was 21--from my cousin--who gave me the extra book in the first place. So, finally, the number 4 was picked.--Congratulations to Tasha. Please email me with your mailing address, and I'll get your book out to you. We are headed for the mountains next week, so it will be the week after before I get it in the mail. I am very excited to be saying this--I won't be around for awhile. We are taking a much needed vacation. Have a great week.

Two Projects in Six Weeks
We have just finished up the twin's second project of the year. Y'all--I'm having a hard time with this. I guess I'm just used to being in control of their schedule. The projects and all the crazy homework are going to cause this momma to lose her mind. I really am trying to handle the switch from homeschool to private school. I have kept my mind open, but when homework is taking two to three hours a night--it's just gone too far. I am seriously considering pulling the twins out after Christmas. High school for K is going great--I have zero problems with it. I am just feeling so sorry for my babies who have to go to school all day, and then do homework all evening. I really felt like this was right for our family this year--I prayed about it a lot. Maybe I haven't given it enough time? Anyway--I will stop whining, but if you think about it, say a word or two in prayer for me. I am posting a couple pictures of A and M with their mammal posters for science. I think they did a great job. B. printed out all the pictures for them, I bought the poster board and letters, and they decided where everything would go, and put it all on. They have to give a 2 minute oral presentation on them this Friday.
She looks so happy.
He looks so sad (He's not though).

Fall Into Reading 2007 and a Tiny Give-Away
I so enjoyed reading all the books I picked for the Spring Reading Thing. And I've had a lot of fun picking out what I will read this fall. The list is not extensive, but I'm looking forward to it. Katrina's reading challenges are always fun to participate in. If you haven't joined up--hop on over for a visit. Also, I am hosting a little give-away. Details at the end of this post. My Fall Reading List:
  1. An Amish Family --finished, very good and informative, easy read
  2. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants-- finished, fun book, but really for younger readers (secular).
  3. Summer --finished, I was literally in tears at the end of this one. I could relate to Ashley.
  4. The Secret Life of Bees--finished, I really enjoyed this book--different from most I've read (secular).
  5. Oliver Twist
  6. Silas Marner --finished, This is a terrific book.
  7. Murder on the Orient Express
  8. A Woman After God's Own Heart
  9. Sisterchicks Do the Hula
  10. Peace Like a River --finished,I thouroughly enjoyed this book but was a little disappointed with the ending.
  11. A Thousand Splendid Suns
  12. Playing For Pizza--currently reading
And here are the books I've added since the challenge began. So, there you have it--my reading list for the fall. I will continue to read my Everyday Life Bible--I am still on track to have it finished by the end of the year. Also, I received the entire Sisterchicks series of books from my cousin. (Thanks, Angie) I already had "Sisterchicks in Sombreros". So--I am going to host my own little giveaway and give away my extra copy. Leave a comment, and I will pick a winner on Friday, September 28th. (That even means all those lurkers out there--like EA, NG, and all the rest!)

Oh Yes, And I Had a Birthday Too
Y'all, I feel so blessed. I had such a wonderful birthday--all the cards, phone calls, comments, and gifts were just wonderful. So, here's a picture of my stash--minus the money.

My husband and kids got me the great knife set. I heart it. I know many would not want something that goes in the kitchen for their birthday, but, the truth is, I often ask for that kind of stuff. I haven't really used it yet, because I haven't cooked this week--except for the twin's soup.

The brown and pink make-up bag is from Mandalyn. I can't wait to take it with me on my trip to the mountains in two weeks. The Casting Crown's CD is from Mandalyn's mom. She was so thoughtful to give that to me--it meant a lot. I have a pretty photo album and a mom's planner from two of my most precious friends--one of whom also made me a birthday cake. There is a black and silver necklace and earrings in the front of the picture from my real life bloggy friend, Jenny. I've worn the earrings twice already.

Annie sent me a sweet package filled with goodies. I particularly like the picture/plaque she sent that says "I found love in an awesome God." She sent a pretty bracelet too.

B's aunt sent me the best looking card--if you look in the picture above you will spot Elvis over on the left side. Some people know me so well! It was perfect.

All in all, it was a great day for me. I am going to enjoy this, my last year in the 30's. Where did the time go? Will 40 hit me hard? Stay tuned...

My Babies are Eleven
We had a great weekend. I think the kids really had a lot of fun with their bowling and ice-cream. B and I bowled too--I even bowled a 130 game. We won't mention that the gutter guards were up--ahem... Unfortunately, we used our 35 mm camera for their party--heaven forbid, but I actually like it better than the digital one. I haven't gotten the pictures developed--and don't have a scanner, so I can't show you those. So sorry... I do have some pictures from their actual birthday on Monday. I had the forethought to use the trusty digital, so I could post some pictures for posterity!
The traditional birthday span*king.

The traditional birthday span*king, again.

Note 1.* This is the first year the twins have shared a birthday cake. I made it--as though you couldn't tell!

Note 2.* We had Mexican soup for their birthday dinner per their request. You can find the recipe here.

Note 3.* We got them each seasons of their favorite shows. A's face really lit up when he saw the first two seasons of Daniel Boone. They also received a ridiculous amount of money, some other gifts, and a BAM card!

I Can See the Future
On the way home from school yesterday, A. asked me about how long it would take to get home. They had a television show they were hoping to catch. I said it would probably be two minutes. When we pulled into the driveway, it had been exactly two minutes. A. said, "Mom, you must be a sidekick!" I just kind of looked at him trying to figure out what he was talking about. Then, I heard his sister, M, say, "A, it's psychic--not sidekick. P-S-Y-C-H-I-C." I just had to laugh--how cute was that? Tomorrow, we are headed out of town with a couple car-loads of kids for the twin's birthday party (their actual birthday is Monday, the 17th.). We are taking them all bowling and then off to Cold Stone for ice-cream. They have looked forward to it all week. After we get home, we are all going to another birthday party for one of K's best friends. Sunday, after church, we will be attending Mandalyn's daughter's 1st birthday party. We are one big party family, yes ma'am! But, I am beginning to wonder if everyone was born in September. It certainly seems like it around here. We've enjoyed it. My birthday is tomorrow--the big 3-9. B. took me out to eat tonight--our only opportunity. We had a very nice time--short, but nice. Have a great weekend.

To Homeschool or Not To Homeschool?
My son informed all his friends Wednesday night at church that he was "definitely being home-schooled next year!" This did not shock me in the least. I knew that he would be the one most likely to feel that way. He has had such a lot of homework, and he finds that to be quite inconveniencing. Imagine my shock when ,Sunday night, he said, "I can't wait until tomorrow." I asked why, and he replied to me: "Because I'm going to school." My only thought was --who are you and what have you done with my son? I have a feeling he and I will both be going back and forth all year on what to do next year!

In Memory
I have been following Amy Wilhoite's blog for many, many months now. I have prayed for her, and I have believed with them for her healing. I am so sad that she passed away yesterday afternoon. Five years ago one of my husband's dearest friends, ever, died from this very disease. I was so hoping to see a different outcome for sweet Amy. She was a very young wife and mother. Please say a prayer for her loved ones during this difficult time.

If I Have To Call One More Repairman, I Will Scream
It wouldn't be so bad if I was calling repairmen for different broken things (or maybe it would be, now that I think about it), but I have to keep calling for the same stupid air conditioner. It has never really been fixed since the first time I called. The repairman has just left for the third time in a month. Ugh. He said it's probably fixed this time, but if it's not, there is one more thing he can do. I wanted to tell him to go ahead and do it now! Anyway, pray for my struggling air conditioner --and my patience with it! We can be glad that the 100 degree weather seems to be over--finally, and we don't have to melt into a puddle right in the middle of our very own living room. In other news, I am so disgusted over a biology lab experiment gone wrong. K had to bring home some experiment where she was testing the ph level of nail polish remover. She put the container on her dresser. When she picked it up to put in her back pack this morning--the solution had eaten through the container, and it had leaked out all over her dresser. Completely took the finish off of her oak dresser. It's not noticeable when you look down on it, but from the side it is. You can also feel it with your hand. We bought this dresser the year K was born--it was our master bedroom furniture for years--and it was in perfect condition--until now. I am trying to remember that it's just stuff--it's a little hard though. Anyway, B seems to think we can fix it. I don't have a clue how, and I'm hoping B does. I am facing a very busy afternoon and evening--filled with cooking, Bible quiz, basketball practice, and a PTO meeting--not to mention helping the twins study for a huge history test. It's all good though. I am adjusting to this new world of mine! I almost forgot to tell you to go visit my food blog--Jenna's Fare. I've posted a couple of great dessert recipes lately--and who can't use a good dessert? Later.

A Fun Tag

I haven't done a meme in a while, and this one looks fun. Thanks for the tag, Kim

1. Accent--I don't have one--but if I had to say, it would be Midwestern, I guess.

2. I don't drink--anything alcoholic. I also don't drink diet anything.

3. Chores I dislike--anything in the bathroom--yuck. I particularly hate scrubbing the shower stall.

4. Pets--don't have any. We used to have a lovely Golden Retriever named Riley.

5. Essential Electronics--computer and Chi flat iron.

6. Perfume--Tommy Hilfiger's Freedom. I used to always wear Eternity. I haven't been wearing perfume for the last year or so.

7. Gold or Silver-Silver--my wedding ring is gold though.

8. Insomnia--about two weeks out of the month.

9. Job Title--Keeper of the Home

10. Most Admired Traits--organization--and I have managed to stay somewhat slender over the years.

11. Kids--I have 4 children. Three on earth, and one precious girl in heaven.

12. Phobia--I am terribly afraid of cancer and reptiles.

13. Religion~Full Gospel/Assemblies of God

14. Siblings--I have two younger sisters, and two step-brothers--one older and one younger. I didn't have step brothers until after I was married. My dad was widowed and remarried after I was married.

15. Time I wake up--I get up at 6:50 am--unless it's the weekend--then I get up around 8.

16. Unusual talent/skill--I would have to say that I don't have one that I know of. My friends would say that I have an uncanny ability to remember the date or year that certain events happened.

17. Vegetables I refuse to eat--brussel sprouts, asparagus, and beets.

18. Worst habit--drinking Coke--and I'm not spontaneous at all--I am a huge planner.

19. X-rays--dental, stomach, spinal

20. My favorite meal--Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, lima beans, steamed carrots, biscuits and gravy. And don't forget the chocolate cake. Yum. Of course, you have to roll me away from the table after a meal like that.

21. I am tagging: whoever wants to do this meme. I hope you will.
