Ancestry
I have quite the interest in ancestry that I don't think I have ever blogged about. For some reason, when B. is away, I get in the mood to do research. I spent hour after hour last summer doing research on Ancestry dot com--B. was gone for 2 months last summer with the military. I have spent many hours the past two days working again. Ancestry has a new feature that will tell you what famous people you are related to. THAT has been the funnest thing. You wouldn't believe the celebrity in my family line--I'm not talking actors--I'm talking about people like

Teddy Roosevelt

Eli Whitney
Florence Nightingale
...and my personal favorite cousins:
Jane Austen (author of the beloved Pride and Prejudice)
Lucy Maud Montgomery (Anne of Green Gables)
Now, here are a couple of my "black sheep" relatives:
Frank and Jesse James
Butch Cassidy

And my kids very favorite cousin of all:

Walt Disney

Of course, Ancestry is very careful to say that they aren't promising you are related to these people, but according to their records--it could be true. In a way it's not completely believable--You wouldn't believe the number of people we are related to when you take into account both sides of our family. There were many, many more. Wow--it's fun to think about anyway! Aren't you proud you know me?

That is very cool. I also had Walt Disney show up in mine, as well as Mark Twain, Gregory Peck, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Norman Rockwell, and a few other bigwigs. Most of those are on my mom's side, but that is mostly because that's the only side that is traced back very far.

I have one "cool" ancestor of whom I'm aware. His name was Cecil Boyer and he was a Pinkerton agent when Abe Lincoln was the president. Apparently there was a rumor that someone was going to try to assassinate Lincoln on the way to his inauguration. So, while Lincoln's train proceeded as planned, my Uncle Cecil secretly drove him in a buggy on another route.
Not as fun as being related to Walt Disney...Oh, well!

My Dad is doing a lot out there...and we just played with this feature about a month ago...we laughed and laughed. Ours had Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton in it. Tooo fun.

By the way, thanks for the comment on my post about DS 3 washing planes. He is so excited. He and my DH are both learning. DH has already soloed and now DS has to wait three years to do his.

That's pretty cool! Lots of neat people there in your family, LOL!

I haven't been bit by the ancestry bug yet. Maybe one day.

That is so cool! I went through a craze like that a few years back. I used that site, and actually found a cousin of mine who then mailed me a huuuuge notebook he had been keeping with family history. It's fascinating. I'm now going to have to go back to that site to see what famous people I'm related to LOL

Hope you're having a good day!
God bless :)

That is really neat! Family trees and ancestory is something I want to do when the kids get a little older and I have more time (if there is such a thing!) :)

I'm jealous! ; ) Very cool relatives. I'm a big fan of Teddy Roosevelt!

Thanks for the homeschooling encouragement. I'm always surprised by all the things we have in common. Glad to know the potatoe cannon is worth trying. : )
Blessings,
Becky

I am so glad I know you! You are practically a celebrity! ; )

I hope Walt leaves you some of his fortune. :) Or at least a lifetime pass to Disney.

I found out that we are related to Bonnie and Clyde...through my dad's mom. I guess we could all trace our roots back to something we would like to hide in the closet :).
