Alphabet Meme
*Blogger is giving me fits right now. It won't let me use the number option--only bullets--and it refuses to let me post this alphabet one the right way with a different letter at the beginning of the line. Sorry.* I saw this meme over at Annie's and wanted to play along. A is for age: 39--for two more months anyway. The big 4-0 is quickly approaching. B is for burger of choice: Hawaiian Burger from Red Robin, the one from Backyard Burger will do in a pinch. I also like the mini-burgers from Chili's. E is for essential item you use every day: My Chi . F is for favorite TV show at the moment: I don't really have one--Jon and Kate, I guess. G is for favorite game: Farkle and Sequence. H is for home state: Missouri--otherwise known as "God's Country". I is for instruments you play: I played clarinet in school for 7 years; very little piano . J is for favorite juice: Orange. K is for whose bum you’d like to kick: I'll keep it to myself, but I can think of someone. L is for last restaurant at which you ate: Arby's. M is for your favorite Muppet: Kermit "It's not easy being green..." N is for number of piercings: My ears (2). O is for overnight hospital stays: 3 childbirths, and 2 pre-term labors--so 5.

P is for people you were with today: my husband and kids, my friend Sheila and her dad, and the paramedics!! Q is for what you do with your quiet time: I read my Bible (I read it through every year.) and pray after I exercise--around mid-morning. R is for biggest regret: The death of my daughter, though I couldn't have changed it. Her 13th birthday was Saturday. S is for status: "And they lived happily ever after" Married. Happily. T is for time you woke up today: 7:50am. U is for what you consider unique about yourself: Don't have a clue. V is for vegetable you love: Home-grown tomatoes--although I guess that's really a fruit. Squash--I like squash a lot. W is for worst habit: I don't know--there are several. X is for x-rays you’ve had: Dental, stomach, neck (Do MRI"s count?). Y is for yummy food you ate today: Moon Pie!!! Middle Name Meme and Stuff

Annie and Momma tagged me for this meme awhile back. Today seemed like a good day to post it! I am not posting or following the rules. And I'm not tagging anyone, but please play along if you want. Now, if you remember, Jenna is a variation of my middle name, so I am going to use Jenna.

J- Joy. Joy is very important to me--especially after a couple bouts with clinical depression. I may not always be happy, but there is always joy in my heart--it may be deep down and harder to find some days, though. !!

E- E? Who can think of anything that starts with an E? Oh, I know--Elegant. I have always wanted to be this, and to have an elegant home. I'm not, and I don't, but it would be just lovely.

N- Not fair that I have to do two of these. Normal. I am just about as normal as they come--average, average, average.

N-Nurturing - towards my kids and hubby anyway. My heart's desire, above all things, is to be a good wife and mother.

A-Alias--Jenna is my alias for this blog. Can you tell I used a dictionary to find this word?

-----------------------
Lately, I have been reading some blogs about this person whipping up a knitted hat for her daughter, or this person sewing two of the most adorable corduroy skirts for her daughters, or another person making tons of Christmas-y things for her family. What is up with me? I have got to get my craftiness on--or else stop reading these blogs that make me feel like I need to. I've done next to nothing this week--well, other than helping with homework, JBQ (junior bible quiz), housework, bill-paying, chauffeuring, cooking, and other normal mom things. I think what I am going to do is get my photo albums updated. I used to be a scrap-booker--but that died out about the time the twins were born. Now, I count myself blessed to have all our pictures from the past twenty years chronologically placed in regular photo albums--well, I don't have the last year and half done. That should be my project, don't you think--to finish up the past year and a half? I'll let you know if I actually do it. Don't hold your breath.

5 Things I "Dig" About Jesus Meme
John started a meme called Five Things I Dig About Jesus. Here’s how it works:Those tagged will share five things they dig about Jesus. Those tagged will tag five people. Those tagged will leave a link to their meme in the comment section of this post so everyone can keep track of what’s been posted. You can go to Five Things I Dig About Jesus to see what other people have said. I have had the wonderful pleasure of being tagged by two sweet ladies for this meme. Jodi at Fruit Inspection and Annie at My Life as Annie both tagged me for this. I really wanted to take some time to think about this one. Any of us that have been serving Him for any period of time could probably write a book on this topic, so I really wanted to think of what I consider the best of the best. I have been thinking all weekend long--so here it goes. I dig:
  1. that He is omnipotent (all-powerful), omnipresent (everywhere at the same time), and omniscient (all-knowing).
  2. that He is the one and only way that anyone can ever have eternal life. There are no alternate routes--no matter what anyone else might think.
  3. that He is forgetful--of our confessed sins, that is. No one else can forgive and FORGET the wrong things I do, except Him. The Bible tells us that not only are our sins taken from us as far as the east is from the west--but He also forgets them. I'm so glad He never finds it necessary to bring up our past--EVER.
  4. that He died on the cross for ME. And if I were the only person ever--He still would have done it. He paid a debt He did not owe. I owed a debt I could not pay.
  5. that He is in the miracle-working business. He wants to give us the desires of our hearts--and to heal our diseases, marriages, etc.

I'm not tagging anyone, but I would love to read yours if you play along. Just let me know when you've posted yours and I'll be right over!

A Career Meme
Annie tagged me for this fun little meme--I am going to have a hard time with it, because I am already doing my dream job.
  1. I would love, love , love to sing alto in a southern gospel singing group. Sadly, while I am decent at reading music, and I have sang all my life, I do not have a star quality voice. This would be my ultimate dream come true, though.
  2. Don't you think it would be really cool to be an ice cream taste tester? Sadly, I'm lactose intolerant.
  3. It would be really fun to be a tour guide at a place that I really love and know a lot about--like maybe Laura Ingalls Wilder's home. Sadly, I don't live in Missouri anymore. ( Not that I don't love Mississippi!)
  4. I would love to be a book reviewer and a proof reader.
  5. I think it would be really cool to go in and help people organize their lives--kind of like Mission Organization on HGTV. Do you suppose that would mean that I would have to get my house a little better organized?

I realized while doing this that I really don't have big-huge-income-bringing -job dreams--These are all pretty normal type things--don't you think? Except maybe the Southern Gospel group thing. And on that note (pun intended), I'm off to listen to a little Crabb Family and to practice my alto!

I think I will tag: Laura, kittyhox, Sonya, and Amberly.

Where Do You Eat Out? Meme
Well, B. left this morning--dark and early--330 AM. He called at 430 pm Central and was getting ready to take off for South Africa. The flight is 15 hours long--so I am assuming he will be there around 730 AM central--what a very long flight. I hate that I won't be able to speak with him for 10 days. That is a very long time! Hopefully, he will have some access to email--that would be great. Anyway, the kids and I are headed out the door early in the morning to spend a couple days in Memphis--we are excited and ready to go! Graceland and the Zoo--with a side trip to the mall and a day at the in-laws. It will be a nice diversion and will pass the time in a fun way until Daddy gets home. Before I leave, though, I wanted to get this Meme out that Annie tagged me for simply ages ago! Where do you eat out? Here are the rules:
  1. Link to name of person that tagged you.
  2. Include state and country you live in.
  3. List top five favorite local restaurants.
  4. Tag 5 other people and let them know they've been tagged.

OK--we live in a small town--Mississippi in the United States--so I am not going to list local places--I am also going to list all time favorites from other locations we have lived--I hope you don't mind. I'm such a rebel--like someone else I know!!

  1. Lambert's in Sikeston, Missouri--Home of the Throwed Rolls. If you ever get a chance to go here, you should really take it. Yum. Good home cooking--and something called "Norm's Pass-Arounds" that come free of charge and are brought around to the tables and they will dip you some if you want--these include things like fried okra, macaroni with tomatoes, fried potatoes and onions, etc. They also have locations in Ozark, Missouri and Foley, Alabama. The atmosphere here can't be compared. A blast.
  2. Tomato Street in Spokane, Washington--I have dreamed of going back here since we left Spokane 7 years ago--it's the first place I would head if we ever get to go back for a visit. This is a wonderful Italian restaurant with the best Baked Spaghetti. I also learned what Spumoni was here! Delightful! Oh, and I almost forgot about the Strawberry Lemonade--to die for.
  3. Ruby Tuesdays--I love, love, love the salad bar at Ruby Tuesday. Supposedly, our town is going to get one of these--it's been the rumor for a good year now. Oh, how I wish this would happen. The closest to us right now is over a half hour away. This makes me sad. No MSG here, which makes it a fave for hubby.
  4. Jason's Deli--Nothing beats this place--great deli sandwiches and a salad bar that closely rivals Ruby Tuesday. They have a lot of organic foods here. Plus, everyone gets free ice cream. We have to travel over an hour to get to one of these. Also no MSG--big points for this family.
  5. Cracker Barrel--My favorite thing in the world to eat here is the Chicken and Dumpling's, Fried Okra, and the green beans. Yum--I may just have to stop by a Cracker Barrel in Memphis this weekend. The closest one to us is an hour away.

OK, I am supposed to tag five people. This is hard--I think I will tag

Mandalyn --the south, Laura--east coast for now, Christy--the south, Kittyhox the Pacific Northwest (which is where my beloved Tomato Street is), and Military Mommy--California, for now!

7 Random Things--Again

I was tagged again for the Random 7. Sweet Sara at The Estrogen Files is the culprit--actually, I am only to glad to comply! Here we go:

  1. My first car was a 1976 yellow Ford pinto. Ugly as sin.
  2. I love to watch Little House on the Prairie.
  3. I was not allowed to go to movies or school dances when I was growing up. The first movie I saw was, "The Gremlins" when I was in 7th grade. I had gone to my cousin's house in St. Louis for the week and they went. My parents never knew about that.
  4. I have a floating kidney. I can't believe I forgot that one. ( This means that it is not attached as it should be and flops forward in my stomach when I am standing or sitting. It is in its right place only when I am lying down. I was born this way--apparently.--I didn't know about it until after my first pregnancy caused it to shift or something.)
  5. I do not wear sun glasses--I don't like them. I read once that your eyes soak up good things from the sun and it keeps you healthy.
  6. Have I said before that I'm not a water person? I would like to be--it really does look like fun--sort of... I usually sit on the sidelines and watch. Waterslides are fun, but once is enough for me. I make myself go for the kids.
  7. When I have to sleep away from home, I usually can't fall asleep until around 3 am. When we are on vacation as a family, we do not schedule early activities. I just about "die" when we have to get up before 8 or 9. We are getting ready to go to the Chicago area for JBQ Nationals, and I am already dreading the wake up calls! I've tried sleeping pills for trips, but they make me feel worse than if I hadn't slept.

And there you have it-7 totally random and boring things about me!

Have a wonderful day.

Daily Planner Meme
Marcia tagged me for this meme last week. It's been so crazy that I am just now getting around to it. I pretty much try to keep things simple around here. I have one book that I use--it lives on my kitchen counter. I don't generally take it with me when I go out--it's so big. Here are a few pictures and then I'll tell you what I keep in it. (It is one of the cheapies from Wal*Mart.) The weekly planner pages below are where I write all the daily things I have to do--errands, appt., housecleaning chores, JBQ study, etc., - go on the left page. The right page is where I keep track of my daily water drinking and my menu plan for the week. I have a separate notepad for my grocery list. The monthly planning page is where I see the big picture. The month below is August--the only thing on the calendar so far is my hair appt. (I keep my hair appts. 6 months in advance--it is necessary with my hairdresser--and I would just about have to be on my death bed to miss an appointment because there's usually no getting another appt. until your next scheduled-- just ask Mandalyn --our hairdresser is extremely sought after-to say the least.) And that about does it for me--I would really love to have a palm pilot--nothing fancy--it would be a lot easier to carry with me. I would especially like to have the menu-grocery program they have for palms. I doubt I would stop using this, though. I'm a pencil and paper kind of gal!

7 Things Tag
I am so not a very interesting person--this is not going to be easy. I've already done my 100 things post--I'm not sure if there are 7 more things about me. I'll try for you, Coach J .
  1. I still take the top crust off my bread when eating a sandwich--never did like the tops. That top part is always harder than the rest--I love the sides and bottom of the bread.
  2. I never touch sugar-free anything--not gum, candy, soda, ANYTHING. That stuff will kill you. Aspartame is bad for the brain. That's my public service message.
  3. I plan on buying and driving a red Mustang convertible just as soon as the kids are grown and have left home. It's how I plan on dealing with Empty Nest Syndrome. I hope Fo*rd straightens up before then.
  4. When I was in high school, I was a part of a group of kids that sang "We Are The World" at several events in our town--and I sang "Friends Are Friends Forever" with a friend at my high school graduation. Great memories. I wouldn't go back for the world, though.
  5. I did not leave the state of Missouri for any reason until I was 17. Where's there to go when you are already living in God's country?
  6. I do not like mustard or pickles. They do not taste good with anything or by themselves. The best condiments are ketchup, mayo, and onion--along with lettuce and tomato.
  7. My favorite dessert is a mix of fresh peaches and strawberries--all juicy with sugar-- poured over yellow cake. My grandma always did this while I was growing up--and the taste of that always brings back memories of my grandma--whom I adored. (She passed away nearly 3 years ago.)

Now, here's the deal--I am supposed to tag 7 people, but I think that everyone I know in the bloggy world has already been tagged--if not, please feel welcome to join in--and let me know if you do.

Here's My Purse, Y'all
Sweet Kim, over at Kim's Candor, tagged me for this handbag meme! My oldest daughter came in while I was taking pictures of my purse and just shook her head! She thinks I'm just a little strange! I can't imagine why...-- So, here are the pictures: This is the spot where my purses hang--just inside the door from the garage. ( Note my favorite sign!) I am carrying the black one right now--the brown one is there for me to switch to if I am feeling the need for change. The black one is really dressy and probably should be saved for my Sunday Go-to Meeting, but I'm too lazy to switch to the more casual brown one! Here's my bag in all it's glory. It is made by Worthington, and I bought it at JC Penny. And here's the inside--it did not want to stay open--so I took another picture with everything on the outside: Here's a better look at the contents--Big Red (I don't do sugar-free anything--but especially when it comes to my Coke), Chocolate- covered Altoids, keys, inhaler (for my son), compact, lip gloss/chap stick, Advil, wallet/checkbook, a Sharpie (for a project I was working on last night) and my church pen. I was so thankful that I had just cleaned out all the trash this past weekend. My family tends to use my purse as the communal trash can when we are out. And There you have it--my Purse! That was fun--so much so, that I think I will tag a few folks myself. Of course, Mandalyn and Coach J--and I have to tag Annie. Anyone else that wants to--please let me know when you've posted.

I'm Randomizing!
My friend, Mandalyn took me up on the offer to be "randomized"! I sure hope she enjoys answering these 5 questions. Here's the rules: Copy and Paste the questions below into your blog. Make sure you answer them! Then, ask who wants you to randomize them! Wait a few days and then create your own 5 random questions for the people who replied to your post. If anyone else has a desire to answer these questions, just let me know when you have them posted. I would love to come read your answers.
  1. If you were to find out you were having boy/girl twins, what would you name them? (After you picked yourself up off the floor, that is!)
  2. If money were no object, what kind of car would you drive?
  3. The President called and he is coming to dinner, what will you cook for him?
  4. If you could eradicate one disease from this world, what would it be and why?
  5. Let's say you are writing a fiction book--what is the title and what is it about?

  1. Go to Wikipedia and type in your birth date only–without the year. -- September 15
  2. List 3 events that occurred that day: 1862: American Civil War--Confederate forces capture Harper's Ferry. 1928: Sir Alexander Fleming notices a bacteria killing mold growing in his laboratory, discovering what later became known as penicillin. 1968: the Soviet Zond 5 spaceship is launched, becoming the 1st spacecraft to fly around the moon and re-enter the Earth's atmosphere.

The Wedding Meme Tag from Annie!
  1. Where/How did you meet? We met the first day of our sophomore year in college. We were commuters that year and were hanging out with some other commuters on the third floor of the Student Union at Southeast Missouri State University.
  2. How long have you known each other? In August, it will be 20 years.
  3. How long after you met did you start dating? About 2 months. I was the one to ask him out, by the way!

  6. How long have you been married? We will celebrate 18 years on July 1st.
  7. What is your anniversary? See #6
  8. How many people came to your wedding reception? Around 150
  9. What kind of cake did you serve? It was a pretty white cake with pink roses.
  10. Where was your wedding? First General Baptist Church in Advance, Missouri. My uncle was pastor there and that is where I was attending at the time. My husband's father actually performed the ceremony. He is an Assembly of God minister.
  11. What did you serve for your meal? We did not have a meal--just cake, nuts, mints, and punch.
  12. How many people were in your wedding party? I had to look at pictures to see--I honestly didn't remember--5 Bridesmaids/Groomsmen, 1 candle lighter, a ring-bearer and a flower girl.
  13. Are you still friends with them all? All the women were family except for one of them. I am in contact with everyone except I haven't seen or spoken with one of my cousins in 3 years and I haven't seen or spoken to the one that wasn't related to me in 10 years. The guys were mostly Air Force cadets--we are still in touch with 2 of them--but not very often.
  14. Did your spouse cry during the ceremony? No.
  15. Most special moment of your wedding day? B sang to me.
  16. Any funny moments? Not really, I did tell my dad before hand that, "I don't want to do this." He said, "Oh, yes you do--come on." And B did have fun smearing cake in my face.
  17. Any big disasters? Not really, I didn't hire a very good photographer though, and it poured rain after the reception.
  18. Where did you go on your honeymoon? We went to Nashville, TN--I don't remember for how long--a few days.
  19. How long were you gone? See no. 18.
  20. If you were to do your wedding over, what would you change? I would have a small wedding, with a fitted dress, and with a much better photographer. I would also take a longer honeymoon.
  21. What side of the bed do you sleep on? Left side
  22. What size is your bed? King size.
  23. Greatest strength as a couple? Honesty--we don't keep secrets--except the holiday kind.
  24. Greatest challenge as a couple? Dealing with the things that come up because we don't keep secrets!!
  25. Who literally pays the bills? Me.
  26. What is your song? We don't have one--but I do tear up when I hear Endless Love because it was sung at our wedding.
  27. What did you dance your first dance to? We didn't have a dance at our wedding, but our first dance, as a couple, was to "Lady in Red". That's a story in and of itself. We don't dance anymore.
  28. Describe your wedding dress. It was white, full in the skirt, fitted and beaded in the bodice.
  29. What kind of flowers did you have at your wedding? They were white and started with a 'C'--I really don't remember, but they were very pretty. Maybe they were camelias.
  30. Are your wedding bands engraved? Nope, never occurred to us.
  31. How old were you when you got married? 2 months shy of 21--and I would do it again--in a heartbeat.

I've Been Randomized By Carrie!
  1. Look around!! Describe to me the very first handmade *gift* your eyes run by that was made for YOU from one of your children. Then, tell me why you have it displayed where you do.~~There are, literally, no hand made gifts anywhere around me. Not a one, if mine have made anything, it is put up somewhere. Mine never went to school where they made special things for parents. They did give me extra special valentine's this year. You can read them here.
  2. Looking back on our childhood, we all can remember something we *always* wanted as a kid, but just never got. What is the one thing you can still remember to this day that you never had the *joy* of receiving? ~~ Carrie, this is hard. I'm trying...I, honestly, can't think of any particular thing I wanted. We sure didn't have much, but I don't remember a thing. I guess, as a young teenager, I wanted my parents to buy a VCR--they finally did though. I did always want to be a part of a particular crowd at school and that never happened--does that count?
  3. What is one phobia that you have that others may find silly? I'm not talking fear of snakes. I mean *silly*, as in, others just don't get why on earth you're scared of *that*? ~Again, I can't think of anything silly that I am afraid of. I think most can kind of relate to the things I'm afraid of--I fear dying young like my mom did. I am sometimes afraid that somone might break in my house and hurt me or the kids. I fear someone walking into a public place and pulling out a gun and shooting me and/or people I love. You know--nothing particularly silly. Maybe, I'm afraid that someone might see me without my makeup or that I will become overweight!!
  4. Name one saying that you made up out of the blue. Nobody in the general public would know what you meant by it but your family is all too aware of exactly what you mean when the words spout out.~ I'm not that creative to make up my own saying. I copy the sayings of others, though, like, " You snooze; you lose!" and "Treat your family like company!", and the one I'm most famous for, "You can get glad in the same pants you got mad in!"
  5. You have the power to grant one miracle to someone outside of your own family. This miracle can not be frivolous. Who would you grant this miracle to. What would the miracle be? How would you go about granting it?~~ has to be some ONE. Hmmm...Carrie, you must have really had fun with these...All that I can think of at this moment is that I would like to see Annie's Izzy healed. If I were the one granting, it would happen in the blink of an eye! One second--she'd be completely restored!

Well, that was fun! Now, the way this is supposed to go is for anyone who wants to be randomized by me to let me know in my comments. I will come up with 5 questions for you and you can answer them on your own blog. Join in, it's a good time! And let me know when you have your answers posted so I can come see! And thank you, Carrie, for the questions! I enjoyed it.
